INTERNSHIP RULES

In accordance with the provisions of Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University Education, Training and Examination Regulations and the Faculty of Pharmacy Education, Training and Examination Directive, in order for students to be eligible for the Bachelor's Degree, in addition to completing coursework and laboratory studies, they are also required to do internships within the framework of the rules specified below.

1. Internship Durations, Internship Periods, Internship Contents and Internship Locations

The start and end dates of internships are announced by the Faculty Student Affairs Unit in accordance with the academic calendar determined by the University every year. Summer Internships cannot be done during the academic year.

The total internship period is 130 (one hundred and thirty) working days. Internships; It consists of four (4) semesters: Internship I, Internship II, Internship III and Applied Pharmacy Education.

One month includes 20 (twenty) working days, one week five (5) working days and one working day includes at least six (6) hours of work. Weekends are not included in the internship.

Community Pharmacy Internships; It is carried out in the pharmacy of pharmacists who have at least three (3) years of experience in the profession, who have not committed a professional disciplinary offense, who comply with ethical and deontological rules, who preferably keep watch, who have a contract with the Social Security Institution (SSI) and who have not received any termination or penalty.

Pharmacies belonging to the first degree relatives of the students who will do the internship are considered out of scope.

Internship I, Internship II and Internship III cannot be done in the same pharmacy.

Students cannot provide information to third parties on confidential matters regarding the operations and services of the pharmacy institutions/organizations in which they do their internship.

Attendance at internships is mandatory. Students are obliged to comply with the working hours, safety rules, order and discipline of the pharmacy or institution/organization in which they do their internship, and to use all kinds of spaces, tools, materials, machines, tools and equipment carefully that they use in the workplace. Any liability arising from failure to fulfill these obligations belongs to the student. Students who do not comply with the above will also be subject to action in accordance with the Student Disciplinary Regulations.

The internship of the student who is determined to be absent from the internship site two (2) times in a row without an excuse during the checks carried out by the faculty members monitoring the internships will be cancelled.

During each internship period, the student may use excused leave for a total of four (4) working days, provided that it does not exceed two (2) working days at a time. The student completes the excuses used during the internship at the end of the internship.

The student stays on duty at least one (1) time during the total internship period.

The learning outcomes expected from each internship period, prepared by the internship commission, are included in the front part of the internship notebook.

Internship I: Duration is twenty (20) working days. It is held in community pharmacies during the summer break at the end of the fourth (4th) semester of undergraduate education. The student himself chooses the pharmacy where he will do his internship.

Internship II: Duration is twenty (20) working days. Under the supervision of a pharmacist in a public (free) pharmacy or hospital during the summer break at the end of the sixth (6th) semester of undergraduate education; It can be done in pharmaceutical production facilities, medical equipment production facilities, cosmetics factories and/or R&D centers related to these production areas. The student chooses the internship place himself.

Internship III: Duration is 20 (twenty) working days. This internship takes place under the supervision of a pharmacist in a public (free) pharmacy or hospital during the summer break at the end of the eighth (8th) semester of undergraduate education; It can be done in pharmaceutical production facilities, medical equipment production facilities, cosmetics factories and/or R&D centers related to these production areas. The student chooses the internship place himself.

Applied Pharmacy Training: Duration is seventy (70) working days. It is given as a curriculum course in the 10th semester of undergraduate education (5th year Spring Semester), in the presence of a pharmacist in community pharmacies or hospital pharmacies.

The pharmacies where the internship will take place are determined by the Tokat Chamber of Pharmacists. These pharmacies must be operated within the borders of Tokat province by a pharmacist who is not collusive, has a contract with the Social Security Institution, has not been terminated or penalized, preferably keeps watch, complies with ethical and deontological rules, has at least three (3) years of experience in the profession and has not committed a professional disciplinary offense. The student can choose the internship place among the community pharmacies determined/approved and announced by the Internship Commission or, depending on the student's request; He/she can complete ten (10) working days of this internship uninterruptedly in any of the following units, provided that he/she receives approval from the Internship Commission (These units must be within the borders of Tokat province).

• Pharmaceutical Warehouses

• Hospital Clinics

• Faculty Departments

• Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TITCK)

• Social Security Institution (SGK)

•Turkish public health institution

• Other Institutions and Organizations related to Pharmacy

In order for students who meet the conditions given below to avoid losing their semester, Applied Pharmacy Training can be completed in the fall semester by the decision of the Internship Commission.

• Having completed five (5) years of undergraduate education,

• Having no courses left to take in the spring semester,

• Being at the graduation stage or having the right to take a single course exam at the end of the fall semester,

• To organize the internship hours according to the fall semester course hours, where attendance is compulsory.

After starting the internship, students cannot change their internship location without the knowledge and approval of the Internship Committee. However, in the event of other problems that may prevent the internship such as the death of the pharmacist, the closure of the pharmacy, the pharmacy receiving a termination penalty, natural disasters, or the negativity the pharmacist/student is exposed to, students are allowed to complete their internship in another pharmacy or institution/organization with the approval of the Internship Commission.

2. Internship Commission and Duties

Internship commission; It consists of the Dean, the Deputy Dean responsible for education and training, and a total of nine (9) members, seven (7) of whom are appointed by the Faculty Board for a period of two (2) years. Members appointed by the Faculty Board; Three (3) members from the Department of Pharmacy Professional Sciences, two (2) members from the Department of Pharmacy Technology and one (1) member from the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences; faculty members who have a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and have at least ten (10) years of experience in the profession and have not been subject to any disciplinary punishment. It consists of one (1) community pharmacist who has not received any One member from among the appointed commission members is appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Commission by the Dean. When deemed necessary, the student representative is invited to meetings to obtain opinions.

Internship Commission duties;

a. To organize at least two (2) meetings a year with the Faculty Education Commission, in the first month of each academic semester,

b. To make preliminary preparations for the internships to be carried out and to create the work plan to be followed during the internship periods, to take the necessary precautions to ensure that the internships are carried out appropriately,

c. Organizing and supervising internships to be held in private pharmacies, hospitals or institutions/organizations,

D. When deemed necessary, to form working groups by selecting Internship Commission members or faculty faculty members,

to. To determine a sufficient number of faculty members with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy in order to monitor and supervise whether the internships are carried out within the specified rules and to recommend them to the Board of Directors for appointment,

f. To plan the internship exams, to form Internship Evaluation/Exam Juries that will carry out the oral or written phases of the exams and to present them to the Board of Directors,

g. To inform the Board of Directors of the success scores of students who are evaluated for internships and to ensure that they are entered into the system upon the decision of the Board of Directors,

h. Making internship location changes when deemed necessary,

I. To hold information and evaluation meetings with the officials of the pharmacy and other institutions to which intern students are sent,

j. To prepare a report containing suggestions regarding the necessary changes to be made in internship standards according to the developments in the practice of the pharmacy profession and new conditions within the last three (3) months of the term of office and to present it to the Board of Directors.

3. Registration for Internships and Other Procedures

The Internship Commission publishes all documents/forms related to the internships and the tasks to be followed in a list on the Faculty website at least one (1) month before the start of each internship. Students are responsible for supplying and preparing documents/forms related to their internship.

a. Internship Application and Acceptance Form: This is the form filled out by the student, approved by the pharmacy or institution/organization and academic unit, and must be submitted to the units specified in the application form.

b. Internship Book: The internship book containing the internship reports is approved by the responsible manager pharmacist of the pharmacy or institution/organization where the internship is performed, with each page signed and stamped. Students must submit these notebooks to the Student Affairs Unit in the first week of the fall semester following the completion of the internship period for Internship I, II and III, and at the end of the internship for Applied Pharmacy Education.

c. Internship Evaluation Form: This is a form that contains information about the internship in question. At the end of the internship, this form is filled out and approved by the person in charge of the pharmacy or institution/organization where the internship was performed; It is delivered to the Student Affairs Unit in a sealed envelope at the latest in the first week of the following fall semester for Internships I, II and III, and at the end of the internship for Applied Pharmacy Education. Envelopes delivered openly are not accepted and will not be evaluated.

D. Insurance Procedures: Before the start of each internship period, the student has his/her insurance work done by the Internship Insurance Officer of the Student Affairs Unit. Insurance documents for internships are submitted to the Student Affairs Unit by the student.

Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance is the responsibility of the student during internships abroad.

During internships carried out within the country, a Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance Agreement is signed with the Social Security Institution of the Republic of Turkey in accordance with the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510.

(“In accordance with Article 5/b of the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510, Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance is provided to students who are subject to compulsory internship, and insurance premiums are paid by the University in accordance with Article 87/e of the relevant law”)

4. Monitoring and Supervising Internships

In order to monitor and supervise whether the internships are carried out within the specified rules, a sufficient number of faculty members with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy are determined by the Internship Commission and recommended to the Board of Directors for appointment. The commission can also supervise internships by contacting the institution/organization where the internship took place and obtaining information about the student doing the internship.

The assigned instructor checks the student at least two (2) times at the place where he/she does his/her internship. Checks can be made by phone or in person at the internship site.

The instructor in charge contacts the internship site manager and obtains information about the student's internship.

At the end of the internship, the instructor in charge examines and approves the internship reports (internship notebooks) prepared by the student. If multiple similarities are detected in the internship reports, the internship reports of the relevant students are excluded from evaluation.

The instructor in charge notifies the Internship Committee in the form of a note whether the student has completed the internship appropriately.

5. Internship Exemption

Some or all of the internship that students who come to the faculty through horizontal transfer do while they are registered at the Higher Education Institution they come from may be accepted with the approval of the Internship Commission. Documents regarding exemption are delivered to the Faculty Student Affairs Unit by the Commission to be placed in the student's file.

6. Evaluation of Internships and Internship Exams

Students who are successful in the report of the instructor who monitors and supervises the internship are taken to the exam by the Internship Evaluation/Exam Jury in the fall semester following the summer internship periods for Internships I, II and III, and at the end of the internship period for Applied Pharmacy Education. This jury is for Internship I, II, III and Applied Pharmacy Education; It consists of at least three (3) people, including one (1) internship commission member and two (2) independent pharmacists who are members of the Tokat Chamber of Pharmacists. Exam dates are announced by the Internship Commission within the academic calendar and on time. Exams are given orally or in writing, preferably oral, based on the practices carried out in the internship program.

Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Pharmacy Career Days are accepted as a part of Applied Pharmacy Education and are evaluated.

Students are asked to practice as prescribed by the Internship Committee regarding current pharmacy practices.

7. Internship Success Grades

Success score; It is determined out of 100 points, taking into account the internship evaluation form (25%), internship reports (25%) and oral or written exam grades (50%), and the evaluations are recorded in the system as letter spacing.

8. Repeat Internship

Students who fail the internship evaluation will be evaluated again fifteen (15) days later. The student who fails this exam; For Internships I, II and III: the exam is taken again during the semester break at the end of the fall semester or during the summer period by repeating the internship for half of the relevant internship periods. For Applied Pharmacy Education, the student must repeat the internship for half of the internship period in the following summer and take the exam again.

INTERNSHIP REPORT FORMAT

The learning outcomes of each internship period, prepared by the internship commission, are included in the front part of the internship notebook for the relevant period. Internship reports are prepared by intern students in line with the learning outcomes in question, written in Turkish in the relevant semester notebook.
